Yesterday I needed to start looking through all these slides for a slide show I'm putting together so I did a google search on making a slide viewer I could use while sitting in front of the TV at night.
Here's the simple one I found, so I got an old box.
Cut a hole in the bottom for the torch to slip into.
Covered the inside with bright white cardboard (to reflect all the light from the torch).
Stuck the torch in.
All I had left to do was cut a panel out of the lid and stick in some foggy plastic of some sort to put the slide on.
I was just about to cut up an old milk container when Shane came out holding this...
Duh...why didn't I think of that? The torch app on my iPhone is perfect for the job. How silly do I feel?

My Creative Space...
How slack am I?? No blog posts for over a week!
Oh well. I have a bit of an excuse, a new toy, my very first iphone...yay. I love it, so today I'm going to make it a case. Just one for when it's floating around in my bag.
What iphone app can't you live without? or which one do you just really love?

My Creative Space...
...involves sewing some new curtains for the cupboards in the Kindy and Year One wet area at Joe's school out of this cute, and very bright, fabric.
They are to replace these old ones.
Also, I went up to Spotlight yesterday (I got a free $10 voucher in the mail) and found these bits of fabric in the remnants bin. I might make a Christmas dress for Ella. They are so soft.

My Creative Space...
You know the other day I was asking for book recommendations...well I decided on one and got it a couple of days ago.
I decided on this one in the end and I'm glad cause I love it!
Yesterday I made this for Joe. I haven't made all that many clothes so thought I'd better start with something simple and then move onto the harder stuff.
I made it with polar fleece because I had some and it's stretchy. It turned out ok.
It's the first time I've done reverse applique which I've discovered is really fun.
My next project will be the Riviera Leggings out of one of these (or both). Wish me luck.

Off the topic of being creative....I just got a phone call from one of my neighbours and got told off for there being a ball in her backyard! Apparently she want's us to go and collect them straight away if one goes over OR to ban ball games in our backyard! The cheek! It's not my fault that she's going to get a hip replacement replaced today...she doesn't have to take all her nerves out on me!
Oh for a rural block with loads of space.

Joe likes it because when he wear's it he has flames on his bottom. He asked for the pointy hood.

My Creative Space...
For a while now I've been thinking I need a nice Chicken Willow stamp to put on my packages and when I discovered that Chantal (my third cousin) does lino printing and can carve a good stamp I asked her to make me one.
Isn't it fantastic!! I went to my local scrapbooking shop this morning and got some nice dark brown ink for it.
I did three prints without re-inking it and I just got three different shades of brown. I like them all. So my day will be spent mucking around with this and maybe making some swing tags with it.
I can highly recommend Chantal's stamp carving abilities if you are in the market for one!

My Creative Space...
A few weeks ago I told you all that I was knitting a unicorn. Well, I finished a while ago but just never got round to taking photos until this morning.
She's been named Smelly because apparently she won't let Ella give her a bath.
When I introduced her to Ella it was definitely not love at first sight like I'd hoped. Here's how it went:
I'd finished Smelly late one night and was planning on giving her to Ella the next day but when Ella woke up having had a bad dream at about 3am I said "Maybe you need a Unicorn to sleep with" and Ella nodded her head so I went to get the unicorn and I gave it to Ella. When she saw it she said "That's a donkey...and it's brown".
I'm putting it down to being pretty dark in the room at the time.
Anyway, since then they have fallen in love and sleep together every night.

My Creative Space...
The time has come to get rid of the kid's night nappies in our house so I was looking around for mattress protecters during the week, you know the ones you can just put on top of the sheets and if they have an accident just take them off and the kids can get straight back into bed. Gosh they're expensive! They cost around $40 each, so that wasn't going to work. Anyway I looked around some more on the internet and found this tutorial to make your own...I just needed to get some PUL fabric which I found at a bargain price of $19.80 for 2 meters from here (it's on special at the moment which was good timing).
So my mission today is to make some of these and start using them tonight. I'm using some old cotton sheets for the top layer and an old cotton blanket for the absorbent layer in the middle.
I even did a test run and I'm impressed, it worked really well. Wish me luck.

My Creative Space...
I'm dropping in my sewing machine today for a service because it's been playing up a bit over the last few days so I won't be doing any machine sewing till I get it back next week. So instead of using my machine I've been hand stitching this.
My MIL asked me to make a cover for a book that she uses every day.
I just sandwiched a stiff interfacing between two op-shoped fabrics and blanket stitched round the edges. I did iron that pink gingham, not sure what happened there. I'll need to give it another iron I think.
Anyway, hopefully now it will last her a few more years to come.
For other creativeness go to Kootoyoo (thanks Kirsty).

My Creative Space... (and giveaway number four)
I've been doing some knitting...here's a leg and a body.
It's going to be a horse and then I'm going to stick a horn on it so it turns into a unicorn for Ella. I love the knobbly knees. It's knit flat in the pattern but I'm doing it in the round to save doing all the seam sewing, plus the starting increases were too hard to do flat. Maybe I'll get another leg made today.
For other creativeness go to Kootoyoo and click on a few links.
Now for my last giveaway (for now anyway).
Here's the one that I'm giving away this week.
I know a lot of people don't have iPads (yet) but feel free to enter anyway and you could give it away as a present or something.
It's made from a aqua coloured upcycled fabric that's got brownish/orange strips on it. It's lined with grey polar fleece and has stiff interfacing so it's easy to get your iPad in and out (effortlessly my husband said).
To enter all you need to do is leave a comment. CLOSED
Entries will be open till 8am on Wednesday 28th July 2010. Please make sure you leave an email address so I can contact you if you're the winner. I'll post to anywhere in the world.
Good luck! Hope you all have a nice Thursday. xx

My Creative Space... (and giveaway number three)
I'm dog sitting my sister's dog Elsie this week and she likes having her coat on but the one she has is getting a bit old and small.
It was a hand-me-down to start with but now I think its time she had a new one so yesterday I whipped up this.
Today I'm going to finish it off, maybe with some pink trim or blanket stitch or something.
Visit Kootoyoo to see more creative spaces today.
Now for this weeks giveaway...number three of four.
I feel like I'm repeating myself now so if you've read the last two weeks blurb then you know what's going on so just skip this bit. For those who haven't been here before...just for fun I've been giving away some iPad sleeves. I've given away two already so two to go. One today and one next Thursday. I know a lot of people don't have iPads (yet) but feel free to enter anyway and you could give it away as a present or something.
Here's the one that's being given away this week.
It's made from a plaid upcycled fabric. It's brown (as you can see) with a bit of black and olive green running through it and lined with white polar fleece and has stiff interfacing so it's easy to get your iPad in and out (effortlessly my husband said).

Unfortunately the house is a mess and the fridge is empty so my day will be spent cleaning and shopping, so you'll have to go to Kootoyoo to see some creativeness (thanks Kirsty)
As I said last week...Just for fun I'm giving some iPad sleeves away. I'll be doing one each week for the next four weeks so you'll have four chances to get one. I know a lot of people don't have iPads (yet) but feel free to enter anyway and you could give it away as a present or something.
Here's the one that's being given away this week.
It's made from a linen upcycled fabric that's got white embroidered flowers all over it (edited to add...I didn't embroider those flowers, they were on the fabric when it used to be a skirt!). It's lined with white polar fleece and has stiff interfacing so it's easy to get your iPad in and out (effortlessly my husband said).

My Creative Space...
Today I need to finish the eyepatch for Joe's pirate costume. He's got a party to go to on Saturday.
I need to wrap this present for my MIL. It's her birthday today and she'll be over after lunch. I made it with some wool and some old sheets.
I'd also like to finish these iPad Sleeves to put into my shop. I've been doing a bit of applique.
Hope your all having a creative Thursday. Thanks Kirsty for hosting My Creative Space.
