Forebear Friday

I love this photo. I've got no information on it. The people in it look familiar and it was in the family stash of photos but I haven't matched it up to anyone yet. I'm guessing it's taken around 1900 and probably in Melbourne somewhere. I just love the old house and that if I look at the picture long enough I keep thinking that someone's looking out that window at me (click on the picture to make it bigger).

I'm not alone this week either... Becclebee has joined me in posting some old photos. I love that she's inherited so much from her Grandmother. Let me know if you want to join in on a Friday as well and I'll put a link in my post.

My Creative Space...

Today I need to finish the eyepatch for Joe's pirate costume. He's got a party to go to on Saturday.

I need to wrap this present for my MIL. It's her birthday today and she'll be over after lunch. I made it with some wool and some old sheets.

I'd also like to finish these iPad Sleeves to put into my shop. I've been doing a bit of applique.

Hope your all having a creative Thursday. Thanks Kirsty for hosting My Creative Space.

A circular email I got the other day

The subject line was 'Why Teachers End up in the Looney Bin'. Most of you have probably seen them, but these made me laugh so thought I'd share them.

Forebear Friday

Here's a photo of my Mum at school in Oxford, UK. I'm guessing they were in sewing class, wonder what they were making. Mum, can you enlighten us? Mum is the one sitting in the white top.

Lots of gifts!

On Tuesday my SIL, Kyla, came back from visiting Africa and America. Yesterday she came over to visit us and get her fix of the niece and nephew and she had two huge bags of gifts for us all! Some of the presents were from Kyla and some were from my BIL, Ben, and my other SIL, Debbie, who live in Boston, Massachusetts. Thanks so much guys...your the best!

First of all look what I had for breakfast this morning! Yummy Grape Nuts...my favourite.

Tomorrow I'm going for toast and jam.

Check out all the clothes we got. The kids got some too, but I haven't got a picture of them yet.

Shane's Celtic's t-shirt

We got matching trackie dacks. I didn't want to take mine off for the photo.

The kids got some great stuff as well.

Bath paint

Remember shrinkydinks? Joe's pointing to his favourite pictures.

And I got this great plate from Africa

We also got a supply of chocolate...I'm surprised this is still around actually, the chocolate pretzel containers looking very empty.

Thanks again Debbie, Ben and Kyla!

My Creative Space...

Today I'll be taking photos of the iPad sleeves I've made over the last couple of days to put into my shop. Here are all the one's I've got at the moment, they look so cute all stacked up in a pile.

Hope your all having a creative day. Check out more over at Kootoyoo. Thanks Kirsty.

Stuff

Today will be filled with iPad sleeve making for my shop. I've got some great new (old) fabrics from the op shops so will be sewing madly trying to get a lot made. I'm thinking of having a giveaway of one or two of them in a week or so. That green retro looking fabric was a dressing gown and the Japanese fabric my Sister and Mum bought for me (thanks!)

Here's a couple more pincushions I made for Danielle who's so kind sending me a lot of her scraps of Liberty fabric. I made her a little key ring as well just for fun.

Also, my friend (another soccer Mum) has started a blog here if you want to check it out, yay Jenine!

Dodgy Door Flap

The doggy door broke the other day week

and it's finally gotten cold enough for me to want to try and fix it, so I found an old nappy and some curtain material

and sewed it all together and ta-da

a new dodgy doggy door flap! No close up photo I'm afraid as it really is dodgy but at least it keeps out a lot of the cold air.

I had to get the little bridge out again the other day. Our old dog Cody used to use it when he got too old to jump up and down from the door. What was that? You want to see Cody? How can I say no.

The last photo is him at 14 years, just before he died a couple of years ago.

Anyway, when he was gone, we took away the bridge because the other dog, Wicket, could do the door just fine. The other day I noticed Wicket having trouble so back came the bridge, the only problem now is that Wicket is too chicken to cross it (probably his bad eye sight). He looks intelligent enough don't you think?

Oh well, back to the drawing board. It might turn into a ramp or some steps or something but in the meantime Ella is using it as a surfboard.

Hope you're all having a nice Tuesday. xx

Eight answers

Kate, these are for you, thanks for answering yours.

Favourite meal to eat? Has to be a lamb roast, with sweet potato, parsnip, potatoes, peas and pumpkin. I also love a really nice chocolate fudge cake with cream and raspberry coulis. Mango.

Do you have a quirky eccentricity? Probably, but they're all normal to me so I can't tell you what they are.

My middle name is Kate.

I am passionate about family and making stuff.

Thongs or Birkenstocks? Thongs.

Who was I before I had kids? I worked on a holiday farm while still at school, we went up about every three weeks or so for the weekend and during school holidays and took out the horse rides and did all the farm jobs and kitchen work and housekeeping. I was a Vet Nurse for nearly ten years when I left school then did a bit of office work. I volunteered in the SES (State Emergency Service) for years and have tarped countless roofs. I shaved my head.

Have I ever been arrested? No, but I will admit to being pulled over and searched in kings Cross and no, they didn't find anything of concern, although in my opinion they didn't do all that good a job of searching…luckily (only kidding Mum).

This weekend I will play it by ear and see whats happening.

Our Saturday

We had thought we might go with my sister and her family down to the science centre at Wollongong on Saturday but then my sisters kids weren't all that keen so they pulled out, so what were we to do??

Lake George

We ended up driving down to Canberra to go to Questacon.

Ella, Shane and Joe being projected onto some screen

We got there just after lunch, stayed till closing time then went for a walk and had some noodles for dinner and left to come home at about 6:30pm.

I only took my camera phone down so I didn't get any great pictures, but here's one of Ella wearing her new reversible dress. I had no control over what she wore with it. She's got it on again today but with the other side out.

Forebear Friday

Here's Marjorie's (my Grandmother) wedding dress that she made featured in The Graphic Newspaper in 1931.

You can read about the dress in the text above the photo. She later turned this dress into a gorgeous T-back number which I remember trying on as a teenager, so beautifully made. I have to ask Dad if he still has it somewhere.

Hope you've all had a great week.
