My Creative Space...

The time has come to get rid of the kid's night nappies in our house so I was looking around for mattress protecters during the week, you know the ones you can just put on top of the sheets and if they have an accident just take them off and the kids can get straight back into bed. Gosh they're expensive! They cost around $40 each, so that wasn't going to work. Anyway I looked around some more on the internet and found this tutorial to make your own...I just needed to get some PUL fabric which I found at a bargain price of $19.80 for 2 meters from here (it's on special at the moment which was good timing).

So my mission today is to make some of these and start using them tonight. I'm using some old cotton sheets for the top layer and an old cotton blanket for the absorbent layer in the middle.

I even did a test run and I'm impressed, it worked really well. Wish me luck.

Check out all the other creativeness over at Kootoyoo.

What a great score on the PUL fabric. That stuff is usually extortionate! Good luck with the night time training!

Oh thanks for that - I have some PUL in a bag waiting to be made up for this very purpose... maybe after we move!

Wow, that is really expensive! I am glad you are finding a cheaper alternative.
Good luck with these sheets and better sleeps for all...

How handy are you!? I bought one of those expensive protective sheets you mentioned and a couple of months down the track, its not working anymore. It wets straight through. I think your idea is a rippa.

Ah, yes, I bookmarked that same tutorial several months ago, knowing we'd need it some day (hopefully) soon. Glad to hear it's working for you!

I know.. I know they are so expensive. And you would have to get a minimum of 2... I never even thought of making them... You are a genius girl!! Good luck... I have all my toes and fingers crossed!!

Good luck Hannah! Don't mean to burst the bubble but beware of expectations. My eldest night trained without any trouble but the youngest well lets just say I am now down to the cheap horrible plasic cover sheets and he is changing the sheet and putting it in the machine almost every day....I am pretty sure I will not be washing bed sheets every day by the time he hits 21!! :-) He is such a deep sleeper!

Good for you making your own. They are expensive! I went for the cheaper matress cover under the sheets and remember many nights stripping and remaking the bed! Never thought then to make my own top cover - when I think of all those extra precious minutes of sleep I could have had....

Hope all goes well for you!
